THE MUNCH MUSEUM

Devoted exclusively to the works of Edvard Munch (1863-1944), Scandinavia's leading painter, this collection was his gift to the city. The expressionist Edvard Munch, who used his own feelings - joy, fear, humour and jealousy - in order to reach a better understanding of life. His work can also be found in the National Gallery, the University and the City Hall. The Museum often houses conserts and special exhibitions.

It traces his work from early realism to latter-day expressionism. The collection comprises 1,100 paintings, some 4,500 drawings, around 18,000 prints, numerous graphic plates, six sculptures, and important documentary material. The exhibits change periodically.

The main attractions in eastern Oslo are the Munch Museum, the Botanic Garden (Botanisk Hage), and the Zoological Museum.
