From a maritime viewpoint, the locality is situated in a key position where the Trondheim channel and the Trondheim fjord meet. There is no doubt that it was precisely this location that played an essential role when the harbour was constructed in a small bay on the northern point of Agdenes. The lighthouse was built in 1803. The lighthouse can be rented by contacting Klæbu sparebank.
Agdenes Lighthouse is next to King Øystein`s harbour at Agdenes. The harbour at Agdenes has quite a special status in central Norwegian cultural history. It is mentioned in several sagas, and is one of very few localities so far recorded in Norway where wooden constructions are preserved.
