Gamle Kirkeplass, an intimate park situated outside the city’s theatre, extends over three blocks, from the river up to the churchyard. Drammens Theatre. Theatercafeen and a couple of small apartment blocks are centrally located on the east side of the square. On the west side of the square lies the old County House, which now functions as a municipal building. Closer to the river lies the Rica Park Hotel and the Freemasons Lodge.
In recent years the park has been used for outdoor concerts during the Drammen River Festival held in August. Both Gamle Kirkeplass and Bragernes Square were constructed with wide, open spaces which serve as firebreaks to prevent a repetition of the city fire of 1866.
