Mount
Torghatten is one of nature´s most peculiar wonders. For hundreds
of years Torghatten has been visited by kings, emperors and tourists.
Tradition has it that the hole in Torghatten was made by an arrow from the Horseman (Hestmannen), while he was chasing the beautiful girl Lekaya.
As
the Horseman realised he would not get the girl, he released an arrow
to kill her, but the troll-king of mna threw his hat into the arrow"s
path to save her. The hat turned into the mountain with a hole in the
middle. The Saga also narrate how the many mountains along our coast
came to be.

The
hole in Torghatten is 160 metres long, 35 metres high and 15-20 metres
wide. You are sure to be awed by the relentless forces of nature that
have been at work for thousands of years.
Torghatten lies only 15 kilometres away from Brønnøysund.
You cross the Brønnøysund Bridge to the island Torget,
which was a centre of power in the Viking Era. There is a good track
leading to the hole approximately 20 minutes on foot.
The Coastal Express (Hurtigruten) calls in Brønnøysund in the afternoon, and this always creates some animation in the docks.

local restaurants are widely recognized for their fine food.
Brønnøysund´s tourist marina is one of the most
popular on the Nordland coastline. Deep sea fishing and a hike in the
mountains, topped with a night on the town, can easily be done between
sunrise and sunset.

Everything
nature has to offer, is within a short distance. In the east, fjords
strech toward mountains with permanent snow and ice. In the west,
thousands of islands, inlets, and sounds invite you to a coastal
experience you won´t find anywhere else.
HILDURS URTEARIUM
Just north of Brønnøysund,
