Nesstraumen is the second strongest sea current in Norway after Saltstraumen. Nesstraumen forms the entrance to a magnificent and unique inland sea with innumerable islets, skerries and beaches and a small part of the realm of Knut Hamsun.

The archaeological show that there have been big activity at Ness for 1500 years. At Ness they have found 29 Viking graves. The grave mounds in Nesseberget soutwest of the quay, they have located 12 graves. The area is protected because of the large number of nesting birds.
At Skutvik, you find groceries, gas station, post office and coffebar/pub. The express passenger boat to Bodø and the ferry to Svolvær the "capital" in Lofoten. "Stella Maris", Hamarøy´s Artscape Nordland sculpture you will also find here.
From Skutvik there is approximately 8 km to Hamarøyskaftet a landmark which is 612 metres.
Approximately 34 km to Helland Hestesenter where you can rent a horse and get around on the horseback in stunning nature of Nordland.
||Approximately 4 km from Skutvik, you will find Ness Camping. The camping site is situated right by the sea and surrounded by a fantastic nature. Rent a boat and explore the great skerryguard. Bring your fishing rod and catch a cod, a coalfish or maybe a salmon. Let the seagull and the eagle keep you company while you fish your dinner on the way home.
Tranøy Fyr an old lighthouse situated on a islet in the Vestfjorden where the buildings are used as a holiday center. The islet is attached to the mainland by a 250 metres long footbridge. Guided tours in the lighthouse.
