Øksfjord is the administrative centre of the municipality. It is located at the mouth of the Øksfjorden on the mainland. The area also has several glaciers. The Øksfjordjøkel glacier is the largest and perhaps the most challenging. The smaller one is Langfjordjøkel.

Nuvsvåg is a fishing village is on the mainland but relies on a ferry crossing (10 minutes) to reach the municipal centre of Øksfjord. The village has a shop, petrol station, school and cafe/pub and is surrounded by high mountains, of which Loppatinden is the highest at 1.175 metres above sea level. Nuvsvåg has it all: fjords, sea, wild mountains, glaciers, rivers and valleys.

From Øksfjord, you cross the fjord by ferry followed by a 20 minute drive to the village of Nuvsvåg.
